The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity

Outside of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Waterford This is the outside of the Cathedral in Baroonstrand Street. The Cathedral was designed by John Roberts and Built in 1793.

It was built on ground leased for 999 years at 2 shillings / 6 pence per annum. Dean Thomas Hearne was a driving force in getting a petition going for the building of a magnificent cathedral, and duly became its first administrator until his death in 1810.

In 2000, the square near Barronstrand Street ( formerly known as "Red Square" ) was re-named as "John Roberts Square" in light of the influence he had over the architecture of the two Cathedrals in Waterford.

Waterford is the only city in Europe to have the Catholic and Protestant Cathedrals designed by the same person.
